One of Mitchell’s core values is to ‘continuously improve and find a better way’.
So in 1992, when Gordonstone Mine (now known as Kestrel Mine) in Central Queensland called, Peter Mitchell had to somehow come up with a plan to drill a 2.5m diameter vent shaft. With the help of his fitters, boilermakers and seasoned drilling team, the Mitchell crew manufactured the drill bit you see here.
The end result – one 2.5m vent shaft complete and a much cooler underground mine!
